Biography:

At concerts, Barry Harris has, over the years, collaborated with the likes of Cedar Walton, Walter bishop Jr and the late Walter Davis, so is of course at ease in a multitude of contexts – solo, trio, quartet, quintet and sextet, accompanist for singers – providing the music is good. His appetite for playing shows no diminution, after around 45 years as a professional performer.

Barry is acknowledged as a completely authentic interpreter of the bop style. His career has been dedicated to keeping the musical flames ignited by Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie and Tadd Dameron burning brightly. His conception is rooted in their vision, and to a genre frequently characterised by its tension he has brought his own unique perception of the quality of relaxation.

Barry Harris’ CD on the Candid - ‘Confirmation,’ finds him in partnership with Kenny Barron creating a positively electric atmosphere. The two piansits between them encompass more than 80 years keyboard experience and have an instinctive rapport – a wedge of jazz nourishment for the 1990s.
