Blue Mitchell had a lyricism and sparkling timbre all his own and an excellent all round command of the ballad, blues and bop idioms.  Born in Florida, 1930, the trumpeter spent several years with Earl Bostic's band and later with Horace Silver, where his playing attracted the attention he deserved.
