Biography:
Twice nominated in this year’s BBC Jazz Awards. Singer/songwriter Clare Teal is causing a huge stir in the jazz world. Since her debut album, ‘That’s the Way It Is’, was released on Candid Records in June 2001, she has proved to be one of the most talented newcomers to hit the Jazz scene in years. Not only a wonderfully gifted singer, but also a very melodic, intuitive and witty writer who’s own songs are already being heralded as standards. Dave Gelly of the Observer has credited each of her three recordings his ‘CD of the Week’ and Michael Parkinson, who has been championing Clare since he heard her stunning version of ‘California Dreamin’ (taken from Teal’s highly acclaimed 2nd album Orsino’s Songs) has invited Clare to sing on his Television Show this autumn (To be broadcast November 15th)

To create the classic sounds resonating from her latest album ‘The Road Less Travelled’ Clare turned to legendary music producer Tony Platt. Platt has worked with hundreds of major stars in all fields of music including Bob Marley, The Rolling Stones and Mercury Music Award nominee Soweto Kinch.

‘The Road Less Travelled’ features two of Clare’s finest compositions, the title track, an amazing blue note jazz waltz duet with the equally sensational Jamie Cullum and the beautiful ballad ‘So Blue’ note the sensitive melodic pedal steel guitar of Melvin Duffy. The album was recorded with Clare’s regular band during May 2003. Piano work was shared between regular pianist and arranger Martin Litton and Simon Wallace (writing partner of legendary Fran Landesman). Simon features on six tracks and also plays Hammond Organ on “The Road Less Travelled” and “Teach Me Tonight”.

Clare has recently been working with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, The BBC Big Band and the BBC Concert Orchestra (Friday Night Is Music Night). She wowed thousands on the ONEWORLD Stage at Glastonbury, took the Edinburgh Fringe festival by storm and has toured all over the UK. Radio 2 favourite – Clare has twice been a guest reviewer on Michael Parkinson’s Sunday Supplement and has recorded a series of songs for the Russell Davies show. Clare’s songs are regularly heard on BBC Radios 2,3 and 4, Jazz FM, Music Choice, and BBC local radio. Over the last year Clare has enjoyed excellent press including major articles in The Mail On Sunday, The Guardian, The Stage, The Yorkshire Post and Jazzwise. Front covers of Jazz UK, Jazz Journal, The Jazz Rag and In Tune. Not to mention huge amounts of regional press wherever she goes.
