In a market flooded with female vocalists, Agossi stands tall.
This follow-up to Zaboum!, Agossi’s engaging and diverting Candid debut last year, finds the French born young singer still happily taking liberties with time signatures, phrasing and interpretation.  The opener, Why Don’t You Do Right, an old blues number by Lil Green made popular by Peggy Lee, sees Agossi taking a languid stroll through the lyric with muted trumpet, by Rob Henke for company.  Not that Agossi needs very much in the way of help.  The title track, the Monk piano classics finds her with only the drums of Ichiro Onoe and the bass of Alex Hiele, giving Agossi the opportunity to express that extraordinary vocal style that goes from beat boxing to hoarse whisper and sweet reason all in one song.  In a market flooded with female vocalists, Agossi stands tall.  She is a true interpreter of the music; always experimenting always fascinating.  Eastern Daily Press, Dec '06
