Blue Piccolo

Ted Curson

BUY / LISTEN

The 1976 album from the great American trumpeter Ted Curson. Recorded by Masahiko Yuh at Vanguard Studios in NewYork and originally released on this WhyNot label.

Curson rose to prominence in the early 1960's as a member of the Charles Mingus quartet of the period (along side Eric Dolphy and Dannie Richmond), and you can hear him on 1961's Mingus and Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus albums, both here on Candid Records.

On this album we find Curson in fine form with a series of adventurous solos, including the bonus of an extended workout on his special Piccolo trumpet on the title track. A valuable snap shot of the Jazz scene in America during the 1970s.

Ted Curson, Cecil McBee, Steve McCall, Jim McNeely
