Saxophonist Ricky ford has worked with the Mercer Ellington-led Duke Ellington band, Charles Mingus, the Mingus Dynasty, Lionel Hampton, the Newport All Stars and Abdullah Ibrahim in addition to leading his own groups as a band leader and composer.
Ford recorded four albums for Candid Records between 1989-91. Ebony Rapsody was recorded live at New York City’s Birdland in June of 1990. Notable that this is the same section (Byard, Hinton, Riley) Ford used for the 1989’s studio album Manhattan Blues, and 1991's live outing American-African Blues.
