Seldon Powell worked with just about every major name in jazz from Woody Herman and Benny Goodman, to Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Chet Baker. While his main instrument was the tenor saxophone, he was versatile, becoming proficient on clarinet, flute and piccolo. His versatility served him well and he found ample employment in the pit bands of Broadway, the busy television and recording studios of New York, as well as with orchestras and chamber groups. In short, Seldon Powell was the complete musician.
This rare set reunites Powell with the great Clark Terry. Recorded live at Birdland in New York City in 1993. It's only one of two Powell lead recordings currently available for streaming.
