Toots Thielemans virtually introduced the chromatic harmonica as a jazz instrument. He has performed on some of the best selling pop records of the last century. His distinctive sound can be heard on infamous film soundtracks like Midnight Cowboy The Getaway, The Pawnbroker. Perhaps most endearing, is his performance on the theme to Sesame Street.
Images is very much one of the true jazz albums that Thielemans made, with renditions of Coltrane’s “Giant Steps”, Duke Ellington’s “Day Dream and Sonny Rollins’ “Airegin”. Recorded in 1974, and featuring the great avant-garde pianist Joanne Brackeen.
