1961’s New Horn In Town holds the distinction of bing the only recording by American trumpeter player Richard Williams as band leader.
While Williams is featured on many recordings through his career, it was always as a sideman. His tenure with Charles Mingus is most notable, but he also recorded with Mose Allison, Booker Ervin, Bill Evans, Red Garland, Roland Kirk, Les McCann and Max Roach among many others.
The album was produced by Candid Records A&R man and founder Nat Hentoff at the Nola Penthouse Recording Studios in New York City September of 1960.
