Joanne Brackeen has been called the “Picasso of jazz piano”, for her unique style and complex improvisations. Her work is at the forefront of what avant-garde jazz can be, and she has long been one of the giants of modal, post-pop piano
A child prodigy, Brackeen began performing professionally by the time she was 12 years old. She has worked with such luminaries as George Benson, Lee Dexter Gordon, Bobby Hutcherson Art Blakey, Jo Henderson and Stan Getz.
Prism, from 1979 is set of piano-bass duets of Brackeen compositions performed with Eddie Gômez. The absence of a drummer highlights the pianist's ability to infuse her music with spirit and drive.
