Stacey Kent is a jazz singer in the mould of the greats, with a legion of fans worldwide, a host of honors and awards including a Grammy nomination, album sales in excess of 2 Million, Gold, Double-Gold and Platinum-selling albums that have reached a series of No. 1 chart positions during the span of her career.
The Boy Next Door became Kent’s biggest hit to date when it was release in 2003 and established her as a household name in France and the UK.
The idea for the album came about when an interviewer expressed surprise at the number of men on Kent’s list of favorite singers and interpreters of song. That Kent’s voice could have so little in common with the voices that inspired her became the impetus of the project.
The recording pays tribute to Kent’s heroes, most who made their mark with the Great American Songbook and popular standards. Each track is name checked - Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatra, Chet Backer, and Sammy Davis Jr. for example. But the album also includes contemporary artists like Paul Simon and James Taylor, and thanks to the tight arrangements effortlessly executed by Kent’s skilled section, blend seamlessly with the older numbers.
Produced by Kent’s long time companion and collaborator Jim Tomlinson and recorded at Curtis Schwartz Studios, England.
