Influenced by Louis Armstrong and Roy Eldridge, Clark Terry’s long career saw him working as a leader, as well as an integarl part of bands for Duke Ellington, Cecil Taylor, Thelonious Monk, Quincy Jones, and many more. He is widely considered a pinoneer in popularizing the flugelhorn in jazz. In fact, he’s been described by Miles Davis as one of the best, if not the best, flugelhorn players in the world.
This commemoration of his genius features Terry in a variety of settings made for Candid Records between 1960 and 1993, with his own combos as well as those of Cecil Taylor, The Basie Alumni and Seldon Powell.
Terry begin his association with Candid Records with his seminal album Color Changes, produced by Nat Hentoff in 1960.
