American pianist and composer Joanne Brackeen's creatively complex and rhythmically adventurous playing has earned her a place in the great jazz player of the late 20th century.
This recording from 1977 sees Brackeen emerging as a composer and band leader as she is joined by Michael Brecker in one of his earliest recordings.
Brackeen's music is characterized by being both playful and complex. She has a strong, forceful approach to the piano. Her playing reflects her rapport with Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and McCoy Tyner.
