Throughout his long impressive career, award winning Saxophonist Gary Bartz has worked with Charles Mingus’ Jazz Workshop (along side Eric Dolphy and McCoy Tyner,) Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and the great Miles Davis, to name a few.
This is the first of two live albums Bartz made with Candid Records. Recorded in March of 1990 at New York’s Birdland.
Featuring Claudio Roditi (past member of Dizzy Gillespie’s band) on flugelhorn and trumpet, pianist John Hicks, (with whom Bartz worked in the Jazz Messengers) drummer Al Foster (who also play with Miles Davis), and frequent collaborator Ray Drummond on bass.
